Over the past 30 years, China has enjoyed the longest and most rapid economic development in history. As part of that phenomenon, Chinese companies such as Lenovo, Huawei and Haier have in recent years increasingly stepped up their internationalization efforts in order to compete globally. Despite the huge business impact and future implications, there is little academic literature on globalization trend of Chinese companies from a corporate strategic perspective, since most of the existing literature derives from a macro-economic standpoint. This book therefore provides a pioneering and refreshing analysis of the global corporate strategies and development of two of the largest Chinese companies (Huawei & ZTE), in one of the most fast-paced industries (telecommunications). Using a proven analysis framework, key characteristics of the globalization strategies of Chinese companies were identified and analyzed. This book aims to shed some light on corporate strategies of Chinese companies with global aspirations, and should be especially useful to senior executives in multinational companies, or anyone else interested in understanding Chinese corporate behavior and global strategies.

Ten or fifteen years ago global business was mainly in the hands of a select number of multinational giants. Small and medium-sized business concentrated on their home markets and perhaps one or two neighboring countries. Not so any longer. Even the smallest businesses have realized that they have something to market in distant countries. Under these circumstances, Chinese companies of all sizes in various industries have recently opened to foreign competition. According to the Chinese Commerce Ministry's new release on relevant report, the Chinese foreign investment reached a new record of 26,51 billion US-Dollars in 2007. This represented a growth of 25,3 percent compared to 2006. After the quantity expansion, the quality offensive comes silently. Today, Chinese companies throw not only millions of T-Shirts, toys or plastic bowls in the international market but also wireless LCD-televisions, telecom-equipment and precision tools as well. Chinese companies have realized that a competitive advantage based on low costs, low prices and large quantities in a global economy cannot defend itself long. Consequently, they focus consistently on innovation and brands. In addition, China's globalization also needs strong mental forces. China does not just want to be a world factory, but instead be an internationally competitive market place that Western competitors already are.In the involvement of Chinese companies abroad aimed at specific markets, several strategies are recog...

Whereas previous research concentrated on articulating what global strategies look like in large multinational companies with decades of experience in operations abroad, The Leap to Globalization focuses on how globalizing is realized over time in companies that start from a narrow geographic base. Three characteristics differentiate globalizing as observed in current practice from simple international expansion. First, globalization implies a redefinition of customer value; second, globalizing is an entrepreneurial process that transforms the company; and third, speed plays an essential role in globalization.

In a world where no country is an island isolated from others, globalization is bound to be contested, debated, and de- and re-constructed at different levels across the international community. For this very reason, it is important to present this concept as developed, interpreted and discussed by the Chinese community. The scope of book is broad, ranging from theoretical reflection to more concrete opinions given by the Chinese academic community, and finally to case studies on globalization and localization. It includes eleven articles by leading Chinese scholars in the past decades.

Globalization is the internationalization process. For developing countries,it means integration with the world economy. In the era of globalization where the whole world is integrated into one market, Transnational Corporations (TNCs) are of prime importance especially for developing countries. TNCs are those which have gone global i.e. extended their operations beyond the boundaries of the nation, in which they were originally started. The industrial, technological, banking and investment sector in India is undergoing a phase of transition owing to increased competition and changes in regulatory scenario due to globalization. This is forcing the companies to shed flab and become more technology oriented. Due to rapid changes in the business environment which require diligent measures from companies if they have to survive in the long run, the domestic companies particularly the public sector companies in India are finding it difficult to cope with the competition. With time it looks like, the relatively Small Indian Companies will have to either close down their operations as restructuring process would again prove to be burden for them or they can look for a sound merger partner.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Globalization, Political Economics, grade: 1,7, University of Paderborn, language: English, abstract: Eating is a basic need for human life and the variety of offered food worldwide is huge. In China, the fast developing nation with an increasing number of habitants and a booming economy, the offer of foreign cuisines grows steadily. The variety includes Western dishes, too, which are slowly establishing in China. Existing differences between Chinese and Western restaurants and dishes are obvious. Thus, this paper investigates which factors influence the consumption patterns of the Chinese regarding Western food, taking the current offer in Shanghai as an example. Exploring this question a qualitative analysis with Chinese partici-pants was conducted. For the analysis, 15 categories were developed based on 7 interviews, which provided detailed information about the participant's attitude, opinion and consumption behavior regarding Western food. The Chinese consciously chose Western restaurants because of the environment there, the different taste of the food or to learn more about a foreign culture. Due to the Opening-up policy and an ongoing globalization process, the younger generation becomes more open-minded and interested in experiencing something new and demands an increased offer with high quality. Implications and limitations are discussed. This research pape...

This market sales potential has become the main driver. Different forms of market entry are available for specific company strategies. The most common are the representative office, a joint venture, and the wholly foreign owned entity. It is widely-believed that China's entrepreneur class has grown and their businesses are succeeding primarily due to their knowledge of the domestic market, quick adaptation to market changes, and their resourcefulness. But innovation? Forget about it. Well, not quite. Drawing on a wealth of on-the-ground stories and thorough research, Chinnovation: How Chinese Innovators Are Changing the World shows how Chinese companies of every stripe have dispelled this myth and overcome the barriers to successful, profitable innovation. How did Neil Shen, co-founder of CTRIP Capital China, see the opportunity for a Chinese travel site? How did Ray Zhang, CEO of Ehi, scale up one of the most innovative hybrid car-rental companies in China? How did Zhang Tao, CEO of Dianping, start a ZAGAT-inspired user-review site for restaurants and establish a continuous process of innovation? Yinglan Tan has spent more than five years learning the secrets of Chinese innovators, a fast-growing subculture playing key roles in China's transformative transition from «Made in China» to «Innovated in China.» Learn: What is the path that an innovative Chinese private-owned enterprise take? How blue-chip innovators remix business models successfully in China? What are the capabilities that these innovative companies acquire? How they harness the necessary resources and navigate around legal restrictions? How do they attract, train and retain talent? How do these companies experiment with innovative approaches and also manage the risk of innovation? What are the lessons learnt and how would these entrepreneurial innovators advise others who are embarking on the same journey? China's rapid economic growth has made it a crucial market but multinational corporations are now competing with China's own homegrown businesses. Chinnovation: How Chinese Innovators Are Changing The World uncovers the common threads amongst Chinese entrepreneurs as they reach into a wider world.

Many companies have established recognizable competitive advantages in their industry, but to be part of the global arena they spent many years in learning and implementing their global business models. These global activities can include developing strategic alliances with overseas development and marketing partners, off shoring and outsourcing of their product and service development process, moving operations to other countries, and acquiring companies. As a result of globalization the competition for global acting companies has changed markedly. Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Nowadays companies all over the world face global competition. Because the bought-in part cost of engineering goods represents a big share of the overall production cost of engineering goods, procurement developed to be a major leverage to save cost in the recent years. As part of it, the supplier management is increasingly considered to be an important business function. Further, the development of supply bases in low-cost-countries (LCC), as China is, over the past years rapidly gained significance, since it is one of the remaining levers to reduce costs. After years of mass production of mostly simple products, today Industrialized-Country (IC) companies from the mechanical engineering industry strive for the sourcing of bought-in parts from Chinese suppliers. The scope of this thesis is to examine the existing methods, especially the Balanced Scorecard (BSC), and other concepts of supplier development and supplier improvement for their application with Chinese suppliers. Based on the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches a new procedure is developed. Therefore the first step is the examination of the supplier development process theoretically and practically. The theoretic view is based on literature research while the source for the examination of the practical problems of German buyers as well as of Chinese suppliers is a questionnaire based interview study among involved companies. Generally occurring threats of the buyer supplier relatio...

They are still short on experience and young in history. Since the Chinese economy has only gradually liberalised after 1978, the industry has been highly influenced by joint venture activities with foreign automobile companies in China.12 years ago, Chinese automotive companies started to internationalise. Dunning's eclectic paradigm is utilized as academic foundation and related motives and entry modes are aligned to current Chinese activities. In early attempts to enter Europe there was a predominant resource-seeking motive, while later market-seeking reasons became more obvious and have dominated the activities since. So far, ownership-specific advantages do not play a major role in terms of valuable intangible assets like patents, whereas location specific determinants are significant, especially in terms of governmental impact. Additional home market advantages in labour endowment, resources, legal environment and strong finan- cial resources give Chinese automakers an edge and prepare them to further internationalise. However, regarding all OLI forces, there are still no outweighing advantages over European competitors. The interviewed experts do not expect a noticeable ma...

These are attested since about the middle of the 1980s, with the observation of a tripolar world drawn up by Kenichi Ohmae. The book intends to explain all theories of globalization, as well as to clarify its relations with innovation. It constitutes an unprecedented synthesis on this theme, illustrated by examples from many sectors of activity.

The work in hand tries to illustrate therefore, with consideration of the specific development of the economy of China, the area of conflict between the 5000 years of age tradition and the modern internationalization standards. Starting point will be a short view on the social and economic developments, which has taken place in the last centuries. A central element of the work is therefore the strategic analysis of the Chinese automobile industry with application of classical instruments of the western management teachings (Chapter 9). The question if there has been developed its own "modern Chinese management style" since the economical opening of China, and thus considerably contributes to the dynamics of the Chinese automobile economy, represents the second core of the work (Chapter 10). Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Sociology - Economy and Industry, grade: 7,0, Maastricht University, language: English, abstract: Globalization is a term so frequently used that one tends to assume that everyone knows what globalization stands for. In one way this is true, since everybody pictures something different when using the word „globalization". The aim of this paper is to clarify the term „globalization" by discussing different authors. Yet, the paper does not aim at giving „THE definition" of globalization, rather it is attempting to show the different ways globalization can and is to be seen. Since there has been a massive amount of theoretical discussion of the term globalization, one needs to narrow down the field. Thus, this paper is mainly going to focus on thecultural dimension of globalization with a small outlook to other fields. Through the direct comparison of different authors certain shortcomings or advantages of their views might be easier noticed, as it would be the case when studying the authorsseparate from each other. At the same time, certain similarities or build - ups of theories can be detected as well.Following authors have been discussed: Anthony Giddens, Roland Robertson, Doreen Massey, Arjun Appadurai, Jan Nederveen Pieterse and Manuell Castells.

The economic and social outcomes of mid-twentieth-century Fordist capitalism were characterized by a decrease in the significance of distance and a shift in the dynamic of time. This "time-space compression" is one of the defining components of contemporary globalization. In their latest collaboration, Alessandro Bonanno and Douglas Constance provide an in-depth analysis of the origins and nature of globalization using the context of the agro-food sector, one of the most globalized socioeconomic sectors in the world.Breaking from widely used methodologies in the study of globalization, Bonanno and Constance argue that the shifting dynamic of space and time has created a new capitalism that is qualitatively different from capitalism inspired by patterns of international relations established throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The book provides an extensive and original review of existing literature and is centered on eight specific case studies. Through the analysis of these "stories of globalization," the authors examine how the origins of and interactions between transnational corporations, groups that resist these organizations, and the state have given birth to a contemporary understanding of globalization. They use this new understanding to analyze globalization as a contested terrain in which the power of transnational corporations is affected by mounting opposition and internal contradictions.

Numerous studies have put their focus on the consequences of globalization on our lives. However, no agreement yet exists among scholars (Guillén, 2001). Speaking of globalization means understanding all its diverse dimensions and actors as well as discussing their transformative power. In his recent book "From Walmart to Al Qaeda" Murillo (2015) offers a multidisciplinary approach considering all the structural elements such as cultural, technological, economic, financial, political and institutional ones that shape and at the same time are shaped by globalization. By discussing the concept of globalization and its impact on each dimension, various approaches are used for diagnosing the direction of change and perils as well as benefits. In addition to that, Murillo (2015:xiii) suggests that "the very complexity and scope of globalization means any discussion requires examination of the various schools of thought, theories and approaches [...]" in order to gain a better understanding of the world. Even though institutional theory is closely linked to the process of globalization and has been wi...

Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Law - Comparative Legal Systems, Comparative Law, grade: A, Tsinghua University (Law School), language: English, abstract: Together with the economic rise of China in recent years and its new role of a leading economic power in the world, the investment activities of Chinese companies abroad has gained tremendous importance and is an essential factor for international competitiveness. But the performance of outbound direct investments underlies an unique regulatory system according to Chinese law which is characterized by a wide range of legal provisions and a variety of different authorities. This often results in disadvantages for Chinese companies in bidding procedures compared to Western competitors. However, the Chinese government has recognized, in recent years, the increasing importance of outbound direct investments for China's economic position, and changed the regulatory system, which existed for over 30 years, in a significant way. The purpose of this thesis lies in analyzing the current regulatory system, identifying the progress noted in comparison to the former regime, elaborating the pros and cons and giving improvements for the future.

Along with the process of globalization, the need of multinational companies to manage business activities abroad is steadily increasing. The book "The Influence of Trust on Leader-Member Exchange in Culturally Diverse Leader-Member Dyads" addresses this need on the dyadic leadership level, examining in depth how trust is influencing working relationships and their professional output in cross-cultural leader-member dyads. Due to their greatly differing management practices, focus is laid on German-Chinese dyads, which constitute a particularly rich example of cultural diversity. Going beyond the mere importance of trust, the book identifies differences in the trust-building process between Germans and Chinese, thus highlighting the general weight of culture in international leadership practices. Through profound research and numerous references the book provides a broad overview over the areas of LMX, German and Chinese leadership practices as well as cultural diversity. It addresses both researchers and managers who deal with cultural diversity in leadership.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Since the reforms of 1979, the People`s Republic of China`s (PRC) economy has experienced significant growth. There is no doubt that this economic expansion has been a direct result of the opening up of Chinese companies to foreign investors. The number of sino-foreign joint-ventures, which are by the way a privileged form of investment granted by the Chinese government, has been increasing rapidly. According to Chinese statistics, at the end of 1998, Chinese-foreign joint-ventures represented approximately two thirds of about 300 000 foreign investment projects that were approved by Chinese authorities. In fact, among the developing countries, China is currently the one which attracts the most western investments. Joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, China pushed this development even further and while other countries were fighting a recession at the same time, it was able to sustain a growth of 7.8% regarding the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), 14.1% with respect to exports and 10.4% regarding imports. Consequently there is steady interest of foreign companies to form joint-ventures in the People's Republic of China. But whereas in the 1980ies mostly the huge corporations where entering this market, nowadays more and more midsized companies, for instance from Germany, are forming joint-ventures too. From the region „Mittelfranken” for example 320 businesses have developed ties with the People’s Republic – a plus of 60% from 1996. Man...

But methodologies and best-practice guidelines exist to identify Chinese suppliers, to develop them, and to establish a global supply chain. However, the case of sourcing unique components from Chinese suppliers is not widely published in the academic literature. Unique components are complex from an engineering point of view, and they are ordered in low volume.Based on a multiple-case study in the electromechanical engineering industry, the result of this thesis is a best-practice guideline for sourcing unique components from Chinese suppliers. The guideline addresses the involvement of different functions including quality assurance with the Chinese supplier, and it shows the different approaches the case companies take for selecting the suppliers. Also, the companies' production management is addressed. The conclusion is that there are two promising approaches depending on the customer's re-quirements. One approach is to outsource engineering and manufacturing as far as possible, the other is to engage in a close buyer-supplier-relationship.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Doing business is easy. Doing business successfully is difficult. Doing business successfully in the long run is a real challenge to management and employees. Companies are driven by the pursuit for growth, and profitability. The increasing globalization process is creating fierce competition. The need for a clear strategy, a guideline is essential to succeed permanently. This means to shift the concentration from short term objectives to long term ones, based on the main determents of success – the customer. The purpose is to find out whether companies are putting strategic emphasis on Customer Relationship Management (CRM), that is, if companies perceive CRM as an important part of their strategy in general or if CRM is an unused tool and is given less intention. Two parts – a theoretical and an empirical one – are the main components of this thesis. The theoretical part covers three important issues – strategy, CRM and the combined view on both single parts. The empirical study is based on a quantitative method – a questionnaire containing 10 general questions regarding CRM and strategy – which includes the response of 106 companies mainly from Sweden and Germany. Stating to be customer oriented is only one thing of the medal. To obtain and to maintain customer focus when doing business is far more difficult. It demands understanding of the complexity, commitment, expertise and time. Obstacles derive from a false interpretation of what customer-led ...

Essay from the year 2007 in the subject Communications - Intercultural Communication, grade: 1,0, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, course: Language and Cross-Cultural Communication, language: English, abstract: The world is growing together. In the wake of globalization many companies have expanded their markets to countries around the world. No matter if in Europe, America, Africa, Asia or Australia - everywhere we are greeted by the familiar corporate logos of global players like Coca Cola, McDonald's and Burger King. I would like to suggest that an important factor of the international success of these companies are specialised marketing concepts, which are based on the individual culture of the respective target country. Intercultural communication seems therefore an important element in marketing products worldwide. In this essay, I will have a look at a company whose name has become synonymous with globalization: McDonald's. The development of the term "McDonaldization" shows that the company's strategy of efficiency, calculability, predictability and control is effective around the globe (Ritzer in Usunier 2000; Jandt 2004).

International business entered the Western Balkan economies by acquiring domestic assets, with the most common form being acquisition. The present volume is the fifth in the series of yearbooks with the title Globalistics and Globalization Studies. The subtitle of the present volume is Global Transformations and Global Future. We become more and more accustomed to think globally and to see global processes. And our future can all means be global. However, is this statement justified? Indeed, in recent years, many have begun to claim that globalization has stalled, that we are rather dealing with the process of anti-globalization. Will not we find ourselves at some point again in an edifice spanning across the globe, but divided into national apartments, separated by walls of high tariffs and mutual suspicion? Of course, some setbacks are always possible, because the process of globalization cannot develop smoothly. It is a process which is itself emerging from contradictions and is shaped by a new contradiction. They often go much further than underlying systemic changes allow. They break forward, as the vanguard of a victorious army, and then often meet resistance of various social and political forces and may suddenly start to roll back just at the moment when everyone expects their further offensive. We believe that this is what is happening with globalization at present. The yearbook will be interesting to a wide range of researchers, teachers, students and all those who are concerned about global issues.

Leveraging cultural diversity is an important element for competing in the global market. Understanding the overall macroeconomic landscape of emerging and frontier markets enables corporations and international business professionals to fully realize the potential for strategic globalization. Most transnational and multinational corporations have made substantial progress in their globalization efforts by establishing operations in several countries and offshoring certain processes to countries with capabilities and growth potential. However, while these recent globalization efforts have their roots in cost arbitrage, successful companies must understand that globalization can be a means for shoring up competitive advantage to diversify intellectual capabilities and growth and improve quality enhancement opportunities. This book looks at how one can move forward from the current situation. Most people still see cultural differences as a barrier to success. The authors demonstrate how one can, instead, leverage from the cultural diversity and create better, more competitive companies, better leaders, and hopefully a safer and more sustainable world.
