Stationary electrical connections and contacts, such as power connections, are commonly applied in electric power systems used for generation, transmission and distribution of electric energy. Several different degradation mechanisms can increase the contact resistance and might therefore reduce the power connection's lifetime. The degradation by film development is often considered as a reason for contact failure.In this research work, the impact of film development produced by chemical reactions, such as oxidation, on the long-term behavior of stationary electrical connections and contacts was studied with crossed rods. Typical material systems for electric power systems were considered in this study: Cu-ETP bare, silver-, nickel- or tin-coated, Al99.5 and AlMgSi0.5. The initial contact resistance and the plastic deformed area of the considered material systems was measured in experimental tests. The film's impact was further determined through comparative experimental studies in air and inert gas.During the experimental tests on perpendicularly crossed rods, other degradation mechanisms were suppressed. The film's impact within the formation phase was studied in more detail. Moreover, the dependency on different environments was tested. At the transition from L-mode to H-mode and vice versa a phase with intermediate confinement exists, which is also called I-phase. During this intermediate state limit-cycle oscillations (LCO) with a frequency in the low kilohertz range occur, corresponding to fluctuations in the plasma temperature, density and other key parameters. This work investigates the spatial distribution of these LCOs within the plasma by diode bolometry. The 2D spatial structure of the Iphase as it appears in the diode bolometers is resolved using correlation and coherence techniques between bolometer channels. It is found that limit-cycle oscillations are localized in the region of the magnetic X-point and it is indicated that they are not stationary but poloidal moving along the separatrix during the I-phase.

One of the first books to provide in-depth and systematic application of finite element methods to the field of stochastic structural dynamics The parallel developments of the Finite Element Methods in the 1950’s and the engineering applications of stochastic processes in the 1940’s provided a combined numerical analysis tool for the studies of dynamics of structures and structural systems under random loadings. To achieve its objective it adopted a modified flexible accelerator model to enlighten on the economic relationship between private investment and the other variables and used the modern technique of vector auto regressive model (VAR) and vector error correction model(VECM)as its methodology. The study also used the Johansen-Juselius (1990) cointegration analysis of a multivariate system of equation to estimate the long run relationship between government expenditure and private investment to determine the order of integration of the variable and Granger-Causality test was undertaken to determine causal relationship between the variables. In addition to this the study employs the Augmented Dicky-Fuller (ADF) unit root test and phillip perron test. Vector control is a method for dynamic control of the speed torque and power factor of the induction motor through permanent control of the intensity and the angle of the space vectors of the electromagnetic variables. The basic idea of the Field Oriented Control (FOC) algorithm is decoupling the stator current into flux and torque producing components. Both components can be controlled separately after decoupling. The structure of the motor controller is then as simple as that for a separately excited DC motor. Direct vector FOC control system is based on measurement, acquisition and (or) estimation of the space angle of the rotor's flux. Unlike the control system which is oriented to the space vector of the rotor's flux, on the dynamic model in a d-q coordinate system of IM and PWM of the voltage inverter, thereby using linear control technique and linear controllers, the direct torque control systems (DTC) are based on the space angle of the stator flux, on the dynamic model of the induction motor in a stationary frame of reference and on the space-vector modulation of the inverter. DTC method is based on non-linear control techniques and non-linear controllers.

The study was guided by four objectives to explore the existing non-formal systems of social assistance among the rural communities, to examine how social assistance systems operate as social protection forms for the elderly in rural areas, to determine non-formal systems' strengths and weaknesses as forms of social protection for the elderly, and to recommend the necessary policy reforms needed to improve on interventions to enhance the non-formal systems' performance as forms of social protection.There is an emerging consensus among multilateral institutions about the need for developing countries to strengthen and develop social protection policies and programmes in response to economic crisis and rising vulnerability.The study employed both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and these included structured interviews, key informant interviews and focus group discussions. It concludes that non-formal systems are feasible institutions to meet social protection needs of the elderly.
