Competency-Based Assessments in Mental Health Practice should be required reading for all clinical practitioners and students. Author Susan W. Gray provides a competency-based assessment model that moves away from looking at mental illness as a 'disease' to capturing people's strengths and the uniqueness of their experience with mental illness. —Alex Gitterma Zachs Professor and Director of PhD Program «Competency-Based Assessment in Mental Health Practice not only describes the rather cumbersome DSM-IV-TR® in a manner that graduate students and clinicians can easily understand and apply, but it also presents a competency-based type of clinical assessment that most effectively integrates the social work practice orientation that acknowledges, appreciates, and nurtures client strengths, resilience, and client ability for empowerment.» —Agathi Glezakos, PhD, LCSW School of Social Work California State University, Long Beach A competency-based assessment model integrating DSM classifications for a complete, strengths-based diagnosis Competency-Based Assessments in Mental Health Practice introduces a unique, competency-based assessment that presents a brief overview of the major mental disorders that practitioners will likely encounter in their work with clients, followed by a series of case studies and practical applications. This book provides valuable guidance for clinicians to make assessments grounded in client strengths and possibilities for a more therapeutically complete picture of every client's «story.» Organized around selected diagnostic categories from the DSM-IV-TR, this hands-on guide offers a multidimensional look at the many factors that play a role in a client's life. Its holistic approach to the assessment process considers each client's unique experience with mental illness, through a concurrent evaluation of strengths and pathology, in order to set the stage for realistic optimism about the potential for change.

Scientific Study from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, Wollega University (Department of Economics), language: English, abstract: This study has examined the impact of foreign aid on government expenditure in Ethiopia over the period 1981 to 2012 using Multivariate Vector Auto Regression analysis. All the necessary time series tests such as stationary test, co-integration, weak exiguity, and other tests are conducted. The empirical result from the long run fungibility equation result indicates that sectoral aid has negative effect on its sector spending in developmental sectors except for agricultural sector government spending. The estimate of agricultural aid also support that a 1percent increase in agricultural aid leads to a 0.83percent increase in agricultural spending. Aid other than health aid also has positive impact on health spending. The positive coefficient of aid other than the health implies that there is an aid diversion towards health sector from the others. The negative coefficients of sectoral aid on the sector spending and the negative coefficients of aid other than sector-specific aid, indicate diversion of aid away from the specific sector. Negative coefficients of explanatory variables may arise when there is a diversion of categorical aid from developmental investment towards non developmental expenditure such as general service government expenditures. The result also shows education aid is fungible both in short and long run. H...

Volume 3—The ‘Clothing’ of Effective Policing: Cultural Competency, Spirituality and Ethics continues my discussion about the humanity of policing. For this writing, I give attention to the spiritual, intellectual, and emotional dimensions of humankind.I use clothing metaphorically to describe more than something to cover body parts. Clothing refers to preparation of the heart, soul, and mind for tasks associated with policing. I came up with the idea while studying scripture, substituting the word clothing for armor, both words understood to refer to protecting the body and mind-set. In the Bible, clothing and colors were symbolic.

During the 1960’s in the United States of America, the fight for civil and human rights was at its emotional peak. The citizens popularly demanded changes within the legal structures. Infringements on the 14th amendment and the due process clause had become common. Gaps in equal protection under the law between race, gender, and the disabled were shameful. Since the advent of the Jim Crow laws, the struggle for freedom for African Americans was at the forefront of political and legal debate. Yet, at the same time, the struggle for equal rights for the mentally disabled was not sufficient due to a lack of “voice” owing to the inherent condition of the mentally disabled. Still to this day, the vague legal definition of mental competency to stand trial is ripe for abuse. Criminals such as Pinochet and others have used the mental competency to stand trial defence strategy to avoid trial for crimes. This book aims to strengthen and call more attention to the rights of the mentally disabled, by giving them a “voice”. The analysis will help shed some light within the legal and medical community on the true vulnerable nature of mental competency to stand trial.

This report is FAO's latest assessment of the long-term outlook for the world's food supplies, nutrition and agriculture. It presents the projections and the main messages. The projections cover supply and demand for the major agricultural commodities and sectors, including fisheries and forestry. This analysis forms the basis for a more detailed examination of other factors, such as nutrition and undernourishment, and the implications for international trade. The report also investigates the implications of future supply and demand for the natural resource base and discusses how technology can contribute to more sustainable development. One of the report's main findings is that, if no corrective action is taken, the target set by the World Food Summit in 1996 (that of halving the number of undernourished people by 2015) is not going to be met. Nothing short of a massive effort at improving the overall development performance will free the developing world of its most pressing food insecurity problems. The progress made towards this target depends on many factors, not least of which are political will and the mobilization of additional resources. Past experience underlines the crucial role of agriculture in the development process, particularly where the majority of the population still depends on this sector for employment and income.

The green revolution in India brought high hopes for Indian farmers. Several new scientific information helped crop production to grow by leaps and bounds: the more researches, the more intricacies. Further knowledge of pests makes scientists consider several new solutions. The use of chemicals was immediately adopted to decimate the population of pests and, at first, good results were obtained. But later on, harmful effects of the pesticides became known. It was realized later on that the regular use of chemicals in pesticides is extremely dangerous for human health.Generally, chemical pesticides are used to curb the harmful effects of insects and pests. But the immediate gain of this process has an adverse effect on the environment in the long run. Regular use of chemicals leads to insecticide resistance. Then, biodiversity is distributed by pest resurgence and pesticide residues. So, the immediate gain of one generation creates serious problems for the next generation. To sustain agriculture towards its natural mode some new solutions are to be traced. The solution to reduce pesticides is present in the preference for biological management. Predators and parasitoids may be used as natural enemies. Presents recent progress in low-profile natural and metamaterial antennas This book presents the full range of low-profile antennas that use novel elements and take advantage of new concepts in antenna implementation, including metamaterials. Typically formed by constructing lattices of simple elements, metamaterials possess electromagnetic properties not found in naturally occurring materials, and show great promise in a number of low-profile antenna implementations. Introductory chapters define various natural and metamaterial-based antennas and provide the fundamentals of writing computer programs based on the method of moments (MoM) and the finite-difference time-domain method (FDTDM). Chapters then discuss low-profile natural antennas classified into base station antennas, mobile card antennas, beam-forming antennas, and satellite-satellite and earth-satellite communications antennas. Final chapters look at various properties of low-profile metamaterial-based antennas, revealing the strengths and limitations of the metamaterial-based straight line antenna (metaline antenna), metamaterial-based loop antenna (metaloop), open metaloop antenna, the effects of counter dual-band CP radiation, and more. Offers comprehensive coverage of both metamaterials and natural materials for low-profile antennas Written by an internationally-recognized expert in the field of low-profile antennas Depicts actual high-performance low-profile antennas for the antenna engineer Draws on classroom-tested material in graduate courses and short courses over the past 20 years Low-Profile Natural and Metamaterial Antennas is a must-have reference book for advanced undergraduate and graduate level students as well as antenna engineers interested in low-profile antenna design theory.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Leprosy, a communicable disease, is one of the most feared and stigmatised diseases in the world. This disease is an important cause of permanent and progressive disability when it is not treated in an early stage. Leprosy control is an instrument to find and treat all existing leprosy cases in a certain area, to bring them under treatment in order to prevent the disabling consequences of the disease. It is essential to consider the cultural, the social, the political, and the economical aspects in the context of leprosy in Nepal to meet the real need of each individual patient. Due to the agricultural background of almost 93 % of Nepal's population, this field needs special attention as a tool for adequate rehabilitation. This paper aims to provide a solution providing a concept for agricultural leprosy rehabilitation. In chapter five rehabilitation strategies for clients with agricultural background are lined out regarding the specific situation in Nepal. Possibilities for the integration of agricultural topics in occupational therapy are discussed, as well as agricultural business creation suitable for disabled clients. Chapter six contains two curricula. The first curriculum deals with a kitchen garden training in occupational therapy and the second curriculum with a curriculum for a beekeeping training as a business creation measure. Master's Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Personnel and Organisation, grade: 1,9, Durham University (Durham Business School), language: English, abstract: Research shows that high-performing people are critical for high-performing organisations. Especially for professional service firms, such as management consultancies, people can be seen as the critical success factor. The competencies of their employees assure the long-term competitiveness of consulting firms. Thus, recruiting and selection as well as personnel devel-opment are strategically crucial for consulting firms. In other words: a strategic competency management, which is based on critical-to-success criteria, have to be in focus within this in-dustry. But how can be distinguished between high-performing and non-high-performing peo-ple? What characterises a successful consultant? What are knowledge, skills, and abilities, which determine job performance within the consulting industry? The research paper at hand tries to answer these questions with the help of a concrete example.Over the last decades two mainstreams to answer this type of practical as well as scientifically relevant questions emerged: the requirements analysis approach, which is more quantitative and focuses on task related requirements, and the competency modelling approach, which is more related to individual characteristics and which attempts to describe how the tasks are mastered. With a blended approach, this st...

Organic Agriculture (OA) is rapidly expanding world over including in India. To meet growing demand for organic products, farmers need to be exposed and trained on organic farming methods through suitable interventions including research efforts, thus, this study was aimed towards filling the vacuum in the area of organic farming research, especially on livestock. The Majority of the registered organic farmers were middle aged having secondary education belonging to small sized nuclear families, with 4-22 yrs of farming experience in general & 3-6 years experience in organic farming, mostly owning land less than 1ha and 2-5 livestock like cattle, goats, poultry. Their low input & welfare oriented animal husbandry practices were very close to the practices prescribed under organic standards, thus, ideal for conversion to organic livestock production system through appropriate training, resources and marketing support as being provided to organic crop production in Uttarakhand state of India. The Uttarakhand Organic Commodity Board (UOCB) had apparantly played pivotal role in motivating farmers towards diversifying agricultural activities using Organic agricultural practices.

This study examined the effectiveness and feasibility of using tiered instruction to increase the frequency of conversational turn taking (CTT) among preschoolers with and without disabilities in an inclusive setting. Three CTT interventions (Universal Design for Learning, Peer Mediated Instruction, and Milieu Teaching) were organized on a hierarchy of intensity and implemented in an additive manner. Using an increasing intensity across participants with a reversal design, child progress was monitored over time and children were moved through tiers based on level of need. A functional relationship between tiered instruction and CTT was found for nine of 13 child participants and the strongest intervention effects were observed at tier one. Teacher fidelity of implementation averaged at 90% across tiers; the highest fidelity occurring in tier one. Resulting contributions include a better understanding of the feasibility of tiered instruction in inclusive settings, the effectiveness of tiered instruction for increasing CTT, and practical implications for the implementation of tiered instruction across tiers and phase change decisions.

Examination Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject English - Pedagogy, Didactics, Literature Studies, grade: 7.0, Austral University of Chile (Institute of Linguistics and Literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences), course: English Language Teaching, language: English, abstract: The major aim of every English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction program should be that students are able to communicate fluently. In this sense, oral production and practice in the foreign language (L2) plays an essential role in the EFL classroom. However, most traditional classroom interaction patterns tend to follow paradigms in which the teacher is the center of attention, in charge of providing L2 input and grammar explanations, consequently leaving considerably little space for students to practice their English within the class session. Even though some traditional authors suggest that the role of Teacher Talking Time (TTT) is crucial -as it provides students with input- this research paper aims towards raising awareness that Student Talking Time (STT) plays an even greater role in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) than the one played by TTT. This paper analyzes the issue, explains the roles of STT and TTT, suggests ratios favoring a higher amount of STT over TTT, and also tries to contribute to the field by suggesting a simple and comprehensive proposal: a set of specialized activities aiming towards reducing TTT and fostering the amounts of STT that take place in the Chil...

Indian agriculture is undoubtedly characterized by a very wide diversity in technology employed and there are still past areas covered by traditional agricultural practices with single cropping pattern. Similarly, there are relatively modern and mechanized operations in many states of the country, which also rely on substantial use of fertilizers, pesticides and vast quantities of water. It is seen that the Green revolution took place in Indian agriculture in 1966 made a breakthrough in the practices of agriculture. It made a noticeable shift from area expansion to yield improvement, wherever possible, in order to the meet the growing demand for agricultural products, particularly food. As a consequence of this change, the energy consumption in agricultural sector has increased the size of output. It is pertinent to note that the structure of energy consumption has also changed substantially with a huge shift from animal and human labour towards tractor for farming operations, and electricity and diesel are largely used for groundwater irrigation.

Gain a holistic view of agricultural (re)insurance and capital market risk transfer Increasing agricultural production and food security remain key challenges for mankind. In order to meet global food demand, the Food and Agriculture Organisation estimates that production has to increase by 50% by 2050 and requires large investments. Agricultural insurance and financial instruments have been an integral part to advancing productivity and are becoming more important in increasingly globalized and specialized agricultural supply chains in the wake of potentially more frequent and severe natural disasters in today’s key producing markets. Underwriting, pricing and transferring agricultural risks is complex and requires a solid understanding of the production system, exposure, perils and the most suitable products, which vastly differ among developed and developing markets. In the last decade, new insurance schemes in emerging agricultural markets have greatly contributed to the large growth of the industry from a premium volume of US$10.1 billion (2006) to US$30.7 billion (2017). This growth is bound to continue as insurance penetration and exposure increase and new schemes are being developed. Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2015 in the subject English - Pedagogy, Didactics, Literature Studies, , language: English, abstract: The aim of this evidence-based study is to investigate the use of the bilingual electronic dictionary strategy to improve EFL/ESL secondary school students` vocabulary learning. Three aspects have been studied in depth: the effect of using the electronic bilingual dictionary strategy on improving EFL students' vocabulary learning, the attitudes of the students and the teachers towards the target strategy, and the students` ability to use the bilingual electronic dictionary. The findings of this study indicate that the bilingual electronic dictionary has a positive and an effective role in the process of vocabulary learning. Moreover, the students show positive attitudes towards using the bilingual electronic dictionary. Nevertheless, instructors may show negative attitudes towards the target strategy for certain reasons . The analysis of data further revealed that the critical point that affects the evaluation of the target strategy is the ability to use the electronic dictionary. If the students and teachers are not able to use the bilingual electronic dictionary, they may show negative attitudes towards it and the strategy will then be useless. Thus, the study suggests some recommendations for using the target strategy effectively for EFL/ESL secondary students vocabulary learning and overall lexical acquisition.

Ecosystem services are the resources and processes supplied by natural ecosystems which benefit humankind (for example, pollination of crops by insects, or water filtration by wetlands). They underpin life on earth, provide major inputs to many economic sectors and support our lifestyles. Agricultural and urban areas are by far the largest users of ecosystems and their services and (for the first time) this book explores the role that ecosystem services play in these managed environments. The book also explores methods of evaluating ecosystem services, and discusses how these services can be maintained and enhanced in our farmlands and cities. This book will be useful to students and researchers from a variety of fields, including applied ecology, environmental economics, agriculture and forestry, and also to local and regional planners and policy makers.

Competencies At Work will equip readers to understand, build, and implement competency models as a foundational and integrating element in talent management systems. Readers will understand how competency models have evolved to be the current best practice in defining criteria for all talent management applications such as selection interviews, promotion panels, assessment centers, job descriptions, and learning objectives. Specific guidance is provided in the steps needed to establish a sustainable model, with research results on universal competencies contained in most contemporary models. Also discussed are the challenges and issues in building and implementing models, such as the need for proof of efficiency and effectiveness, that is, reliable measures of competence and proof of validity. Competency models will be placed in the greater context of he complete talent management system needed to effectively recruit, select, orient, train, appraise, reward, motivate, and promote high-performing employees. The most popular competency applications of interviewing, assessment centers, survey-guided development, job modeling, and training criteria are specifically explored and explained. Finally, recent case studies bring competencies to life in real organizational settings. Questions for reflection will help readers review and summarize important content in each chapter.

Several governments, Non Governmental Organization and Faith Based Organization has made it clear of their commitment to towards the education, treatment and care and eradication of the pandemic. this also calls in the role of the church as an organization to determine what role does it play on mitigation. An analysis of data collected suggests that there is need for the church to engage its congregants to more information in HIV and AIDS awareness through its teachings. However there is need to train the pastors first before they are ordained and sent out to work with parishioners and congregants. The researcher recommended the introduction of training of pastors in HIV and AIDS issues and that man as decision makers should also be involved in caring, and all management and mitigation issues in relation to HIV and AIDS issues.

The present paper analyses the Indian concerns in this respect. It is found that the negative impact of WTO on agricultural commodities exports as it was thought is not a valid case for India. India's agricultural items have got a due respect in international market. Not only the quantity of export has increased but also there is improvement in the prices of agricultural items. Non traditional agricultural items have got greater market access and better prices followed by traditional items and items of future potential.

The study focuses on the role and function of Israel in postmodern Jewish American literature. Hence, the work is based on the thesis that the existence of a Jewish State in the Middle East has developed into a key motive for postmodern Jewish American literature. The role of a Jewish State is examined in particular with regards to questions of Jewish American identity, as well as with regards to related questions of ambivalent attitudes and political positions towards Israel in general and Jewish American identity in particular. A comparison of Saul Bellow's 'To Jerusalem and Back' and Philip Roth's 'Operation Shylock: A Confession' provides a basis for the analysis of the above stated assumptions.
