In this book the solution representations obtained from a recently developed Fokas integral method for solving boundary value problems for linear evolution PDEs are evaluate numerically. In particular, the case of the linear KdV equation is considered. The Fokas method is quite general and it is therefore of wider interest to assess its competitiveness for numerical purposes. Until now pseudospectral methods have been know to be the most accurate numerical scheme for smooth functions. To compare the two methods, the linear KdV equation is computed numerically using both, a pseudospectral method and the direct evaluation of the integral representation. The two methods are compared for accuracy and speed of the numerical computation, showing that for linear evolutionary PDEs the numerical implementation of Fokas method is much faster and more accurate than a pseudospectral method. The nonlinear KdV equation is also looked at using pseudospectral methods and a motivation for a possible hybrid method which would use both the Fokas and pseudospectral methods together is given.

In a climate of significant problem drug use opiates continue to be the main problem drugs. Illegal drug use is a hidden phenomenon, making it difficult to obtain accurate estimates of untreated use. Yet viable methods to produce current and regular prevalence and incidence estimates are required by policy makers and service providers responsible for allocating increasingly scarce resources. Using Irish data on cases of clients presenting for first treatment, incubation period distributions describing progression to first treatment were fitted. This was then applied with new analytical solutions of the back calculation equation and a linear Volterra integral equation to estimate for the first time the untreated population of opiate users. Based on these models for estimating the hidden incidence an integral equation model was derived and solved to estimate the prevalence of opiate use. A partial differential equation a model was then derived to describe the geographic spread of opiate use in Ireland. The methods and solutions produced address the very real problem facing service providers and planners in tackling and providing adequate services for problem opiate use.

The use and management of multimodal transport systems, including car-pooling and goods transportation, have become extremely complex, due to their large size (sometimes several thousand variables), the nature of their dynamic relationships as well as the many constraints to which they are subjected. The managers of these systems must ensure that the system works as efficiently as possible by managing the various causes of malfunction of the transport system (vehicle breakdowns, road obstructions, accidents, etc.). The detection and resolution of conflicts, which are particularly complex and must be dealt with in real time, are currently processed manually by operators. However, the experience and abilities of these operators are no longer sufficient when faced with the complexity of the problems to be solved. It is thus necessary to provide them with an interactive tool to help with the management of disturbances, enabling them to identify the different disturbances, to characterize and prioritize these disturbances, to process them by taking into account their specifics and to evaluate the impact of the decisions in real time. Each chapter of this book can be broken down into an approach for solving a transport problem in 3 stages, i.e. modeling the problem, creating optimization algorithms and validating the solutions. The management of a transport system calls for knowledge of a variety of theories (problem modeling tools, multi-objective problem classification, optimization algorithms, etc.). This study presents the basic models for discrete and continuous particle laden flow simulation. An overview of the two main approaches, the Lagrangian discrete particle model and the Eulerian granular phase model is given. Moreover these two approaches are combined to a hybrid model to use the benefits of the discrete and continuous description. This safes computational time and increase the efficiency of particle laden flow simulations. The climate impact studies usually require detailed information with high resolutionand accuracy for past, present, and future. The main and important tools of studying climate are the general circulation models (GCMs). Unfortunately, GCMs running on coarse resolution may not able to detect the local scale climate variability. This study therefore intends to assess the greenhouse gas emission reduction measures in urban transport of Mekelle city. It employs a descriptive research with qualitative and quantitative research approaches and survey research strategy. Data for the study were collected from primary and secondary data sources. Questionnaire, interview, and observation were used to gather primary data from owners of private automobiles and transport office, whereas, archives were used to gather secondary data. These data were analyzed through qualitative (narrative analysis) and quantitative (descriptive and statistical analysis) methods. Tables, charts, graphs and plates are used to present the data. This study finds that Atoz and Yaris car models; and Hyundai and Daihatsu motors emit lesser amount of carbon dioxide, while Land cruiser and WllB car models; and Mercedes Benz and Suzuki motors emit more. The average emission level of private automobiles in Mekelle city is found to be 209.93grams of CO2/km with an average fuel efficiency of 12.115k...

This testing is limited to numerical aspects by comparing the differences between: keff, flux and CPU time resulting of the three solvers. We will compare the value of keff against reference Monte Carlo. To do this we will expose these solvers to three benchmark problems: ZPR 1D, Stepanek, Takeda. In general the three solvers shows a very good agreements with Monte Carlo and sometimes with much less CPU time. Good results were founded by NEMO This work was performed at CEA, Saclay, DM2S/SERMA. The APOLLO3 code is being developed by SERMA (Service d'Etudes de Réacteurs et de Mathématiques Appliquées du CEA). Its purpose is to provide a neutronic codes and studies for both thermal spectrum reactors and fast spectrum reactors. APOLLO3 code has four deterministic solvers MINOS, IDT, MINARET, TDT and recently a new solver called NEMO is introduced on an experimental basis. These different solvers have a common object that is to calculate the flux by solving the neutron transport equation, each of these solver uses different numerical methods for an angular variable and for a spatial variable

The use and management of multimodal transport systems, including car-pooling and goods transportation, have become extremely complex, due to their large size (sometimes several thousand variables), the nature of their dynamic relationships as well as the many constraints to which they are subjected. The managers of these systems must ensure that the system works as efficiently as possible by managing the various causes of malfunction of the transport system (vehicle breakdowns, road obstructions, accidents, etc.). The detection and resolution of conflicts, which are particularly complex and must be dealt with in real time, are currently processed manually by operators. However, the experience and abilities of these operators are no longer sufficient when faced with the complexity of the problems to be solved. It is thus necessary to provide them with an interactive tool to help with the management of disturbances, enabling them to identify the different disturbances, to characterize and prioritize these disturbances, to process them by taking into account their specifics and to evaluate the impact of the decisions in real time. Each chapter of this book can be broken down into an approach for solving a transport problem in 3 stages, i.e. modeling the problem, creating optimization algorithms and validating the solutions. The management of a transport system calls for knowledge of a variety of theories (problem modeling tools, multi-objective problem classification, optimization algorithms, etc.). The different constraints increase its complexity drastically and thus require a model that represents as far as possible all the components of a problem in order to better identify it and propose corresponding solutions. These solutions are then evaluated according to the criteria of the transport providers as well as those of the city transport authorities. This book consists of a state of the art on innovative transport systems as well as the possibility of coordinating with the current public transport system and the authors clearly illustrate this coordination within the framework of an intelligent transport system.
