In this work I used self-assembled InAs quantum dots. The sample we used contains quantum dots embedded into a distributed Bragg reflector cavity, which improves the emission properties of the quantum dots. For entanglement to work in multi-photon experiments one would need a high purity of the exciton photon.

This book is composed of three interlinked parts: an experimental investigation of InP QDs embedded in L3 photonic crystal (PhC) nanocavities, an optimised design and study of H1 PhC nanocavities with the aim of providing an unpolarised PhC cavity, and finally, a strain tuning technique is introduced to minimise the mode splitting in planar PhC cavities. Initially, the factors that affect the mode splitting in H1 PhC cavities are investigated by FDTD simulations. The optimised design of an unpolarised PhC cavity with a high quality (Q) factor is experimentally demonstrated. The higher order modes in H1 PhC cavity are experimentally and theoretically studied. The second part introduces a uniaxial strain technique to tune H1 PhC cavity mode wavelengths and restore degeneracy to the fundamental cavity modes. The last part demonstrates InP QDs coupled to L3 PhC cavity mode. The cavity with the highest Q factor compared to that reported previously is explained in terms of the design, fabrication, and characterisation. Control over the spontaneous emission rate of InP QDs is presented by spectrally tuning the exciton emission energy into resonance with the fundamental cavity mode.

The most well studied of all systems in quantum optics are those that produce laser action. The basic ideas of the laser have given rise to a number of laser-like offspring, including the laser with saturable absorber and the laser with injected signal. In this dissertation our attention is to be directed to another member of this family, namely optical bistability (OB). Under certain circumstances, OB is studied when a beam of light is injected into a ring cavity filled with a homogeneously broadened medium of two-level atoms. In this phenomenon we simply have two stationary values for the transmitted light intensity corresponding to the same incident intensity, so that the medium appears as either transparent or absorbent. The aim of this dissertation is the study of the behavior of the present system in order to show the effect of the system parameters on OB. For this reason we apply the semiclassical treatment where the system can be described by the Coupled Maxwell-Bloch (CMB) equations. Optical tristability (OT), in which we have three stationary values for the transmitted light intensity rather than two, can be obtained when two different sorts of atom exist in the cavity.

In the present work, we present extensive new data on thallium employing multi-photon and multi-step excitation techniques in conjunction with a thermionic diode ion detector. A number of different excitation paths have been used. The first experiment addresses the observation of odd- parity levels np 2P1/2,3/2 and np 2F5/2 using two- photon excitation from the ground state. In the second set of experiments we employed a two-step excitation scheme using 6s2 7s 2S1/2 intermediate level and observed the np 2P1/2,3/2 levels upto n = 56. The even-parity levels have also been excited using three-photon excitation from the ground state revealing ns 2S1/2 and np 2P3/2,5/2 levels. In the subsequent experiments, we used a two-color three- photon excitation technique to approach the ns 2S1/2 and nd 2D3/2 levels using 7p 2P1/2 as an intermediate level. The nd series have been extended upto n = 65 and it is noticed that the intensity of the high Rydberg series scales as 1/n2.8. However, the np 2P1/2,3/2 series, which have been observed upto n = 56 scale as 1/n2.3 in contrast to the scaling law of 1/n3 for an unperturbed Rydberg series.

In recent years, Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) developed into mature photon detectors which are chosen in a wide field of applications. However, the dark count rate (DCR) of SiPMs sets strong limitations to such detector systems. This quantity describes the rate at which pulses are generated in the absence of light (dark pulses) and deteriorate the photon counting performance of SiPMs.In the course of the presented research, two innovative characterization methods were developed for the identification and evaluation of the physical effects which underlie the generation of dark pulses in SiPMs.The first method is based on the temperature dependence of the DCR. It allows for the extraction of different contributions to the dark count rate, which (a) depend on the applied voltage, (b) depend on the applied overvoltage and are quasi-independent of the electric field. The second method is based on the detection and mapping of the light intensity which is emitted by the effect of hot carrier luminescence during the avalanche breakdowns of SiPM micro-cells. This method enables a sub-micro-cell, 2D spatially resolved measurement of the dark count rate within the plane of the active area. In particular, the individual contributions of implantation and radiation induced defects to the DCR were evaluated via this method.The acquired knowledge was used to successfully suppress the dark count rate of KETEK SiPMs down to a level of 40 kHz/mm².

This work “Development of GaN Resonant Cavity LEDs (RCLEDs)” for short distance high speed data communication using plastic optical fibre (POF) was conducted in the Tyndall National Institute (previously known as National Microelectronics Research Centre) and was presented to the National University of Ireland for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. During the time of this publication (autumn, 2002), it was the first approach on monolithically grown resonant cavity LEDs on GaN based semiconductor material. Using the fabricated RELEDs a data transmission rate of 100 MBits/sec over 100 meters was achieved through a 1 mm core POF. For some devices under constant current biasing, the intensity was observed to fluctuate irregularly accompanied by correlated variations in the voltage. The emission from the RCLED was focused through a GaAs wafer onto a Vidicon camera. Flashes from point sources on the RCLED surface were observed, indicating that short-lived, highly localized "hot spots" formed that generated pulses of thermal radiation. This happens from metal migration into nanopipes present in this material.

It was investigated the interaction between the quantized cavity field and atomic string consisting of equidistant three-level atoms which is injected at such a low flux that at most one atom at a time is present inside the cavity. The trapping conditions for the flying time in a cavity are obtained. Moreover, it was received the so called cotangent state for the proposed systems. The properties of cavity fields are examined. In various limits, the state exhibits vacuum nutation as well as sub-Poissonian statistics and squeezing properties. The spontaneous emission of a multilevel equidistant excited quantum oscillator in case when the symmetry of the dynamical transitions between the levels is submitted to the SU(1,1) symmetry group is studied and compared with those well-known for the SU(2) symmetry. The cooperative generation of phonon pulses in chalcogenide glasses by groups of inverted equidistant multilevel coupled excitations (electrons, excitons) is investigated. Such equidistant systems take place in chalcogenide glasses with fractal structure.

This paper cites and discusses some possible kinds of Gravity manipulation. ZPE appears to reduce gravity as it is inversely proportional to the gravitational force.From Coulomb's Constant, the "Planck charge" (qP) and the corresponding quantum vacuum (QV) lepton/photon ratio are calculated, the latter by dividing qP by the Planck mass. The QV-lepton/photon ratio is very different to the analogous baryon/photon ratio that is predicted by Standard Model, demonstrating that the QV and space-time are two different entities (e.g., that they have a different number of dimensions). A dimensional model for the QV that evolves from, and is supported by, the lepton/photon ratio is presented herein, together with emerging technologies.By expressing natural constants in terms of Planck units, we found that the Universal Gravitation Constant is the inverse of vacuum density matter-equivalent and the square of Planck time, being the former equal to Planck mass divided by Planck volume. This leads to incomplete absorption of drugs having absorption window especially in the upper part of the small intestine, as once the drug passes down the absorption site, the remaining quantity goes unabsorbed.Since many drugs are well absorbed in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract, such high variability may lead to non-uniform absorption and makes the bioavailability unpredictable. Hence, a beneficial delivery system to control and prolong the gastric emptying time and can deliver drugs in higher concentrations to the absorption site to show local action in the stomach requires a specialized delivery system. So the purpose of this study was to lengthen the stay of drug in its favorable absorption area and prolonging the release of the drug by formulating it into an effervescent gastro-retentive drug delivery system.

Two novel nanoarchitectures - including the highly branched spikecube exemplified by β-SnWO4 and the biomimetic nanopeapod manifested in [email protected]@HxK1-xNbO3 - were put forward for the first time in this dissertation, particularly aiming at enriching the library of pattern designs for sunlight-driven photo(electro)chemical applications. Specifically, β-SnWO4 spikecubes were entitled on the basis of the peculiar morphology, wherein bundles of nanopillars were self-aligned with quasi-periodicity onto each sharp face of hexahedral cube cores. Moreover, this geometric engineering was particularly carried out on a Scheelite-type (ABO4) β-SnWO4 crystal with a visible-light-active band gap of 2.91 eV and subtle conduction and valence band positions, endowing the photoexcited electron-hole pairs on β-SnWO4 with strong reducing and oxidizing power, respectively. Consequently, an outstanding photocatalytic activity in degrading organic dyes was observed for the β-SnWO4 spikecube with an enhancement more than 150% in comparison with a benchmark visible-light-active WO3 photocatalyst. By contrast, the design of [email protected]@HxK1-xNbO3 emulates the growth pattern of a natural plant - a peapod -, wherein sub-10 nm core-shell [email protected] plasmonic bimetallics as the particulate peas seeded discretely inside the unidirectional cavity of the tubular HxK1-xNbO3 semiconductor as the pod. Both sensors were fabricated by MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) and semiconductor processing. The first thermal flow sensor is one-dimensional (1-D) flexible shear stress sensor. Utilizing the state-of-art MEMS technology, its primary advantages were structural flexibility, bio-compatibility and small size. Then, a novel 3-D thermal flow sensor was developed based on previous flexible 1-D sensors. With computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, 3-D sensor can potentially achieve a better measurement of shear stress distribution in the presence of time-varying component of blood flow and realize more accurate assessment of intravascular convective heat transfer.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, University of Mindanao (Research Center), language: English, abstract: This study was conducted to identify the risk constructs and to determine the level of extracted risks in operating a micro enterprise in Davao City. A modified survey questionnaire was distributed to 104 respondents. The respondents of the study were the micro entrepreneurs who are in the business for the last three years operating within the area of Davao City. The study used quantitative exploratory research using exploratory factor analysis and Kaiser-meyer-olkin to determine the factors and the level of per extracted risks that were critical to the micro entrepreneurs in operating a micro enterprise. The results revealed that among the four risk factors perceived by micro entrepreneurs, only financial risk was considered the factor that greatly affect the operation of a micro enterprise. Furthermore, the study revealed that variables such as income, business type and type of business ownership were considered sensitive in operating a micro enterprise. The study is beneficial to the micro enterprise owners since it would give them a better understanding as to which factors are more significant to them. This would also enable them to prepare and protect their businesses from risks in order to survive the industry.
