The Evidence-Based Nursing Series is co-published with Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). The series focuses on implementing evidence-based practice in nursing and mirrors the remit of Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing, encompassing clinical practice, administration, research and public policy. Models and Frameworks for Implementing Evidence- Based Practice: Linking Evidence to Action looks at ways of implementing evidence gained through research and factors that influence successful implementation. It acknowledges the gap that exists between obtaining evidence and the practicalities of putting it into practice and provides direction to help to close this gap. This, the first book in the series, helps the reader to make decisions about the appropriateness of using various models and frameworks. A selection of models and frameworks are examined in detail including examples of their use in practice. The book concludes with an analysis and synthesis of the included models and frameworks. The models and frameworks that have been included are based on a number of criteria: that they are internationally recognised, have undergone widespread evaluation and testing, are transferable across different settings, and can be used by different disciplines. Models and frameworks include: Stetler Model Ottowa Model of Research Use IOWA model of evidence-based practice Advancing Research and Clinical Practice through Close Collaboration (ARCC) model Dobbins’ dissemination and use of research evidence for policy and practice framework Joanna Briggs Institute model Knowledge to Action framework Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services (PARIHS) Key Points: Includes an overview of implementation issues and the use of theory and frameworks in implementing evidence into practice Chapters are written by the developers of the model or framework Each chapter provides background on an implementation model or framework, suitable applications, underlying theory and examples of use Each chapter examines strengths and weaknesses of each model alongside barriers and facilitators for its implementation

Revision with unchanged content. The Libor Market Model is a financial model used to price and hedge exotic interest rate derivatives. The model is accepted and used widely due to its consistence with the standard market formula, Black's cap (floor) formula. This compatibility simplifies the calibration because the Black's quoted prices for standard interest rate derivatives can be directly used as an input for the model. The goal of this book is to examine the Libor Market Model theoretically and apply it practically to the pricing of standard caps, discrete barriers, European swaptions and ratchets. The dynamic of the Libor Market Model will be derived and all steps of its implementation using Monte Carlo simulation will be explained. Implementation is fulfilled using different volatility and correlation structuring. Certain care should be taken when calibrating the Libor Market Model and structuring the forward rate volatilities and correlations as they may affect prices of interest rate derivatives considerably. The book is aimed at graduate students of finance and practitioners implementing this model in practice. This study investigated the effectiveness of technology innovation grants awarded to 55 secondary school mathematics teachers between 1997 and 2003. Although professional development resources often are allocated for integrating technology and for applying constructivist theory into the mathematics classroom, little is known about the return on these investments. The grant recipients were sorted into 3 groups, by the grant award date, and descriptive statistics was used to summarize the perceived impact of technology on constructivist statements. A 25-question mail-in survey instrument was used to gather information about teacher level of technology integration, teacher observations of students when using technology, the impact of technology on constructivist behaviors, and other demographic data related to years of teaching and courses taught. This study contributes to social change in professional development by providing a model to determine the efficacy of how funds allocated for instructional resources, instructional programming, the purchase and implementation of instructional technology and the allocation of resources to professional development programs.

Digital Storytelling is a tool that was created to integrate the newest technology in the classroom. It has proven to be a powerful tool indeed. It is said that the reason for its power lies with the type of students we teach each day in our schools. Students today are multi-taskers, creative, and visual learners. They have grown up in a world of multimedia and respond to audio-visual in positive ways. Given the opportunity to tell their stories using digital storytelling models, they are transformed into self-motivated information consumers. Our job, as educators, becomes one of utilizing their natural gravitation to technology to fit our purposes of teaching state and national standards.

Financial modelling Theory, Implementation and Practice with Matlab Source Jörg Kienitz and Daniel Wetterau Financial Modelling – Theory, Implementation and Practice with MATLAB Source is a unique combination of quantitative techniques, the application to financial problems and programming using Matlab. The book enables the reader to model, design and implement a wide range of financial models for derivatives pricing and asset allocation, providing practitioners with complete financial modelling workflow, from model choice, deriving prices and Greeks using (semi-) analytic and simulation techniques, and calibration even for exotic options. The book is split into three parts. The first part considers financial markets in general and looks at the complex models needed to handle observed structures, reviewing models based on diffusions including stochastic-local volatility models and (pure) jump processes. It shows the possible risk-neutral densities, implied volatility surfaces, option pricing and typical paths for a variety of models including SABR, Heston, Bates, Bates-Hull-White, Displaced-Heston, or stochastic volatility versions of Variance Gamma, respectively Normal Inverse Gaussian models and finally, multi-dimensional models. The stochastic-local-volatility Libor market model with time-dependent parameters is considered and as an application how to price and risk-manage CMS spread products is demonstrated. The second part of the book deals with numerical methods which enables the reader to use the models of the first part for pricing and risk management, covering methods based on direct integration and Fourier transforms, and detailing the implementation of the COS, CONV, Carr-Madan method or Fourier-Space-Time Stepping. This is applied to pricing of European, Bermudan and exotic options as well as the calculation of the Greeks. The Monte Carlo simulation technique is outlined and bridge sampling is discussed in a Gaussian setting and for Lévy processes. Computation of Greeks is covered using likelihood ratio methods and adjoint techniques. A chapter on state-of-the-art optimization algorithms rounds up the toolkit for applying advanced mathematical models to financial problems and the last chapter in this section of the book also serves as an introduction to model risk. The third part is devoted to the usage of Matlab, introducing the software package by describing the basic functions applied for financial engineering. The programming is approached from an object-oriented perspective with examples to propose a framework for calibration, hedging and the adjoint method for calculating Greeks in a Libor market model. Source code used for producing the results and analysing the models is provided on the author's dedicated website, http://www.mathworks.de/matlabcentral/fileexchange/authors/246981.

The design, implementation and validation of avionics and aeronautical systems have become extremely complex tasks due to the increase of functionalities that are deployed in current avionics systems and the need to be able certify them before putting them into production. This book proposes a methodology to enable the rapid prototyping of such a system by considering from the start the certification aspects of the solution produced. This method takes advantage of the model-based design approaches as well as the use of formal methods for the validation of these systems. Furthermore, the use of automatic software code generation tools using models makes it possible to reduce the development phase as well as the final solution testing. This book presents, firstly, an overview of the model-based design approaches such as those used in the field of aeronautical software engineering. Secondly, an original methodology that is perfectly adapted to the field of aeronautical embedded systems is introduced. Finally, the authors illustrate the use of this method using a case study for the design, implementation and testing of a new generation aeronautical router.

Reliability analysis is done by using Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD). These analyses are performed to develop redundant systems. The main focus of this thesis is to make the system behavior fail-operation using wireless technology. The implementation of algorithms and protocol design has been done with an MSPEXP430 board and a CC2520 transceiver to detect single point failures. The implementations were then tested to detect different failure levels successfully. In this modern age, a car has different functionalities and facilities. The implementation is done by using different actuators, sensors and Electronics Control Units (ECUs). Due to the high complexity of wiring and addition of weight to a car, controlling and maintaining these devices is difficult. As a solution for these complexities and the problem of weight growth, wireless technology has been used with the TDMA method. The approach for replacing wire by wireless technology may, however, not be secure and reliable.

This study analyses examples of classroom discourse, one of the most important influences on students' experience in schools, in EFL classes. The central idea of the author's enquiry is to compare classroom discourse in two secondary schools in two European countries, namely Austria on the one hand, and Spain on the other hand. The focus of the study is on EFL classes taught by a team of a non-native speaker teacher and a native speaker assistant. The purposes of this study are to gain insights into classroom communication, to compare classroom discourse in two different countries to see whether culturally specific rules of classroom communication might apply, and to investigate the contact situation of two different (if existent) communication strategies in classroom discourse. Therefore, the study aims to answer the following research question: Do the cultural modes of classroom communication in EFL classes (taught by a team of a teacher and an assistant) differ from each other? The data needed for this study were collected by means of video-recording; audio-portions were transcribed; and the data was analysed using methods of Conversational Analysis. The author focuses in particular on turn-taking, the occurrence of the IRE / IRF sequence and simultaneous speech, as well as restarts and pauses. The analysis shows how certain conversational structures, such as simultaneous speech or the IRE / IRF sequence, work in classroom discourse. The results hint at different cu...

Teaching Using Computer Game Development traces the efforts of a teacher of technology who translated the contents of a software engineering course (which students usually complained was boring) into an involved project centered on developing a computer game. In addition to meeting with success in his initial project, the instructor discovered an approach to teaching that broadened the scope of the classroom to accommodated students with widely varying learning styles. A further discovery was that what applied to a technology classroom can extend across the curriculum. Developing such topics as starter game morphing, software engineering, feature-based development, simplified UML, participatory learning, autotelic learning, and metonymic and analogical transfer, this book is an excellent source of information on how computer game development supplements formal academic studies to create learning environments that appeal to a wide variety of learning styles and personalities. In an age of digitalization, it provides many insights for anyone who is interested in using digital media to enhance the classroom

Probabilistic Finite Element Model Updating Using Bayesian Statistics: Applications to Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering Tshilidzi Marwala and Ilyes Boulkaibet, University of Johannesburg, South Africa Sondipon Adhikari, Swansea University, UK Covers the probabilistic finite element model based on Bayesian statistics with applications to aeronautical and mechanical engineering Finite element models are used widely to model the dynamic behaviour of many systems including in electrical, aerospace and mechanical engineering. The book covers probabilistic finite element model updating, achieved using Bayesian statistics. The Bayesian framework is employed to estimate the probabilistic finite element models which take into account of the uncertainties in the measurements and the modelling procedure. The Bayesian formulation achieves this by formulating the finite element model as the posterior distribution of the model given the measured data within the context of computational statistics and applies these in aeronautical and mechanical engineering. Probabilistic Finite Element Model Updating Using Bayesian Statistics contains simple explanations of computational statistical techniques such as Metropolis-Hastings Algorithm, Slice sampling, Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, hybrid Monte Carlo as well as Shadow Hybrid Monte Carlo and their relevance in engineering. Key features: Contains several contributions in the area of model updating using Bayesian techniques which are useful for graduate students. Explains in detail the use of Bayesian techniques to quantify uncertainties in mechanical structures as well as the use of Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques to evaluate the Bayesian formulations. The book is essential reading for researchers, practitioners and students in mechanical and aerospace engineering.

The information collected in this study about teachers' perceptions can be used to improve the physical environment of early childhood classrooms. Moreover, in the literature there is a lack of studies on early childhood teachers' perceptions related to the physical environment for classroom management. Thus, this study aims to examine the perceptions of a group of early childhood teachers in relation to the influence of the physical environment of the classroom on classroom management. Lastly, since the recognition of the significance and impact of early childhood classrooms increase, the physical environment of these classrooms and its influence on classroom management should be determined to improve early education centers and programs.

To achieve the objective a one sample survey method using questioner and focus group discussion was employed. The participants are 168 instructional leaders (108 principals & 60 supervisors) with different training, teaching and school leadership experience selected by convenience sampling. The two roles of media that are selected are media used as supplement and substitute for the teacher in classroom teaching. Both quantitative and qualitative techniques were used to analyze the data gathered. The research answered seven research questions. The findings revealed that there were significant differences in perceptions of instructional leaders. Media training that they do have in the past contributed to some extent but neither experience in teaching nor in leadership has significant contribution for perception. The reasons behind instructional leaders' perception are mainly their belief that media has no or less impact on student motivation but traditional roles of teachers has some impact. The identified factors that affect perception are negative beliefs, irresponsibility, ignorance, lack of willingness and know-how. The study discusses the findings and makes some recommendations.

It uses FHSS technology to transmit the packets with a slot time of 1micro sec pseudo-randomly. The frequency interference (packet collision) occurs due to the operational increase of the Bluetooth device in a certain domain at certain time. The device address and the clock of the piconet master are used by the frequency hop selection kernel to determine the frequency channel for packet transmission. That channel may be occupied by an other piconet at that time in certain domain and packet collision will occur. A simulation model is developed to realize a physical scenario where i have investigated.

An extensive body of literature exists outlining the effectiveness of book clubs and their use, both in and outside of the classroom. However, limited research exists discussing why and how book clubs are effective at improving literacy skills and the key indicators that mark this success. This book presents research findings that seek to explore the effects of book clubs on improving literacy and building a community of learners in the classroom. Using four seventh-grade, under-performing students, the book outlines some of the key factors for making an effective book club in a Canadian setting. The book first contextualizes itself in the current literature of book clubs and communities of learning and then presents findings from classroom observations and interviews from the perspective of a 'mathematics guy'. These findings indicate a positive, causal relationship between the use of a book club as a learning tool and building a community of learners, which in turn improves literacy skills. Despite its limitations, this book provides some research-based suggestions for how and why to implement a book club in your classroom.

Narmada, a river in central India flows in a rift valley through the state of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat is the important source of water supply and ground water recharge. Therefore watershed management planning and water resource management can be improved in rift valley after accurate simulation of hydrologic processes. In this study the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) was used on Middle Narmada basin. The basic objective of the present study is to derive the parameters required for runoff modelling using the remote sensing and geospatial database and estimate the runoff of the Middle Narmada basin. The main input data for simulation of SWAT including Digital Elevation Model (DEM), Land use, Soil type, soil properties and hydro-climatological data, were appropriately collected. By providing all the inputs for model set up, SWAT model was simulated for the period of 15 years (1995-2010). The average annual surface runoff is about 244.54 mm. The model was calibrated and validated using SUFI-2 algorithm. The sensitivity analysis of the model to sub-basin delineation and Hydrological Response Unit (HRU) definition thresholds showed that the flow is more sensitive.
