Project Report from the year 2017 in the subject Engineering - Computer Engineering, grade: 4.5, , language: English, abstract: In this project, we describe FAST TCP, a new TCP congestion control algorithm for high-speed long-latency networks, from design to implementation. We highlight the approach taken by FAST TCP to address the four difficulties, at both packet and flow levels, which the current TCP implementation has at large windows. We describe the architecture and characterize the equilibrium and stability properties of FAST TCP. We present experimental results comparing our first Linux prototype with TCP Reno, HSTCP, and STCP in terms of throughput, fairness, stability, and responsiveness. FAST TCP aims to rapidly stabilize high-speed long-latency networks into steady, efficient and fair operating points, in dynamic sharing environments, and the preliminary results are produced as output of our project. We also explain our project with the help of an existing real-time example as to explain why we go for the TCP download rather than FTP download. The real-time example that is chosen is Torrents which we use for Bulk and safe-downloading. We finally conclude with the results of our new congestion control algorithm aided with the graphs obtained during its simulation in NS2.

With the growth in multimedia technology, demand for high speed real time image compression system has also increased. JPEG 2000 still image compression standard is developed to cater such application requirements. It offers numerous advantages over traditional JPEG standard. The key algorithms adopted in this standard are discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and embedded block coding with optimized truncation (EBCOT). Both the algorithms are computation intensive and when implemented on general purpose processor, they are unsuitable for real time applications. Therefore, to meet the timing constraints imposed by the real time systems dedicated VLSI implementation of these algorithms is imperative. EBCOT is a two-tier coder. Tier-1 is a context based adaptive arithmetic coder and Tier-2 performs layered bit stream formation. Tier-1 is further partitioned into block coder and MQ coder. To a novice, it is difficult to grasp the operating principle of the block coder and hence it is difficult to realize high speed JPEG 2000 architecture. The author has made an attempt to demystify these concepts and presented a simplified VLSI architecture of the block coder in this book.

Efforts has been taken to design Low Power, phase locked loop with multiple output, using 45nm VLSI technology. The design process, at various levels, is usually evolutionary in nature. It starts with a given set of requirement. When the requirements are not met, the design has to be improved.The proposed PLL is designed and analysed using 45 nm CMOS/VLSI technology with microwind 3.1. The effective gate length required for 45 nm technology is 25nm. Low Power (0.211mwatt) phase locked loop with four multiple outputs as PLL8x, PLL4x, PLL2x, & PLL1x of 3.3 GHz,1.65 GHz, 0.825 GHz, and 0.412 GHz respectively is obtained using 45 nm VLSI technology. Thus a very high efficient, optimum area chip is designed and analysed for phase locked loop with low power of 0.211 mw and four multiple outputs.

Vector control is a method for dynamic control of the speed torque and power factor of the induction motor through permanent control of the intensity and the angle of the space vectors of the electromagnetic variables. The basic idea of the Field Oriented Control (FOC) algorithm is decoupling the stator current into flux and torque producing components. Both components can be controlled separately after decoupling. The structure of the motor controller is then as simple as that for a separately excited DC motor. Direct vector FOC control system is based on measurement, acquisition and (or) estimation of the space angle of the rotor's flux. Unlike the control system which is oriented to the space vector of the rotor's flux, on the dynamic model in a d-q coordinate system of IM and PWM of the voltage inverter, thereby using linear control technique and linear controllers, the direct torque control systems (DTC) are based on the space angle of the stator flux, on the dynamic model of the induction motor in a stationary frame of reference and on the space-vector modulation of the inverter. DTC method is based on non-linear control techniques and non-linear controllers.

This book presents an algorithm for the detection of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal in a cognitive radio context by means of a joint and iterative channel and noise estimation technique. Based on the minimum mean square criterion, it performs an accurate detection of a user in a frequency band, by achieving a quasi-optimal channel and noise variance estimation if the signal is present, and by estimating the noise level in the band if the signal is absent. Organized into three chapters, the first chapter provides the background against which the system model is presented, as well as some basics concerning the channel statistics and the transmission of an OFDM signal over a multipath channel. In Chapter 2, the proposed iterative algorithm for the noise variance and the channel estimation is detailed, and in Chapter 3, an application of the algorithm for the free-band detection is proposed. Grover's quantum search algorithm is an important landmark discovery in the area of quantum computing that drives a quantum computer from a known initial state(source state) to an unknown final state(target state) by using selective phase inversions of these states. The algorithm is simply a successive iteration of the Grover's search operator, which is a product of selective inversion operators of source and target states. In its original form, Grover's operator performs the selective inversions only on a unique source state and a unique target state. In the generalized version, we make our search operator to perform selective inversions on more than one source and target states. First, we find that the case of selective inversions of two source and two target states can be easily analysed somewhat similar to the case of Grover's algorithm. But unlike Grover's operator, the selective inversions of three source and three target states is not so easy to study analytically and hence we perform numerical calculations on some specific cases. We find that these generalized search operators also give us a successful quantum search as expected.

In the version at hand classes that feature local search, simulated annealing, tabu search, guided local search and greedy randomized adaptive search procedure were implemented. Most notably a generic implementation features the advantage that the problem dependent classes and methods only need to be realized once without targeting a specific algorithm because these parts of the source code are shared among all present algorithms contained in EAlib. This main advantage is then exemplary demonstrated with the quadratic assignment problem. The source code of the QAP example can also be used as an commented reference for future prob­lems. Concluding the experimental results of the individual meta­heuristics reached with the presented implementation are presented.

A scheduling algorithm schedules a set of tasks in such way that the tasks are completed before their deadlines reached. There are varieties of algorithms for scheduling of periodic tasks on multiprocessor under partitioning scheme or global scheduling scheme. The most common scheduling algorithms are: Rate Monotonic (RM), Deadline Monotonic (DM), Earliest Deadline First (EDF) and Least Laxity First (LLF). In this book, we have proposed a new algorithm titled as D_EDF which is modified conventional EDF algorithm. The proposed algorithm along with EDF, LLF, RM, DM algorithms are simulated and tested for independent, preemptive, periodic tasks on tightly coupled real-time multiprocessor system under global scheduling. From experiments and result analysis it concludes that the proposed algorithm is very efficient in both underloaded and overloaded conditions. The algorithm proposed in this book; perform quite well during overloaded conditions. The algorithm is truly dynamic as it can work with available number of processors.

Goliath was developed during several projects at Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg. The suggested algorithm is an extension for the existing catalog implementation. It will introduce several analysis steps which explore structural as well as semantic aspects and create possibilities to group products based on their semantic similarity. After this, the work defines a format for product description templates and also shows how to extract those by using Greedy algorithms. The templates can be used to simplify product creation for the product creator. Finally, the thesis combines all steps to an overall template generation process and states recommendations for the use of this process in a distributed environment.

The classic approach in Automatic Control relies on the use of simplified models of the systems and reformulations of the specifications. In this framework, the control law can be computed using deterministic algorithms. However, this approach fails when the system is too complex for its model to be sufficiently simplified, when the designer has many constraints to take into account, or when the goal is not only to design a control but also to optimize it. The study analyses impediments, barriers and obstacles to the implementation procedure and discovers key success factors concluding with a conceptual framework for a successful TPM implementation. The dissertation also examines the challenge of managing change within the TPM context and identifies that such a TPM journey requires employee and management commitment to be successful. Through a case study of implementing TPM in an automotive supplier company, the practical aspect within and beyond basic TPM theory and problems encountered during the implementation are discussed and analysed.
