In the water supply system, the network is an important component in determining the success of the supply system. A well managed and robust network system will result in less frequent supply disruptions and low system losses. Water is now considered a scarce but essential resource that should be managed in an integrated manner. Current urban water management concepts and practices cannot adequately respond to these requirements. The traditional approaches of resource handling are now considered as unsustainable. Water demand management (WDM) is a new approach that aims at influencing demand & thus improving distribution efficiency. There is a need to change the way that water resources are managed. In order to maintain sustainability, water Demand management (WDM) application tools are required in addition to supply management. The main driver for this research was the supply-driven orientation favoured by policy makers and practitioners in Bahrain with little consideration for demand management. There was also a need to investigate the institutional environment for managing water resources and delivering sustainable water supply to Bahrain.

Prediction of future water demand is critical to economies, communities, ecosystems, cost-effective, sustainable management and expansion of urban water supply infrastructure. Its importance increases when water must be allocated among competing users in the rapidly growing cities. This study compares Time series analysis and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) as techniques for water demand prediction for a case study city. The effects of meterological factors on domestic water demand prediction were taken in consideration in order to find the best model. Multilayer Perceptron(MLP), Cascade correlation (CCNN) and General Regression Neural Network (GRNN) were applied. The combination between Time Series and ANN techniques was also studied.

There are obviously still a lot of loopholes in the management of village hand pumps and water supplies are often interrupted due to inefficiencies that are inherent in the management systems of these hand pumps. It is also clear that numerous deficiencies existed at all levels of the management structures of the water supply systems in rural areas. DDF and BRDC had virtually no capacity to effect efficient operation and maintenance of village water supply systems for rural communities. In particular DDF was failing to procure spare parts for maintenance purposes .Critical technical staff as well as logistics in the water division was virtually non-existent. Without exception the RDC also had serious challenges of its own, in ensuring that efficient management structures at all levels were in place and functioning for effective management of hand pumps. Given this scenario, the communities were found not ready to be left on their own to manage their water supply systems in a sustainable manner.

The global wastewater generation is increasing at an exponential rate and this is as a result of rapid population growth and urbanization. Due to delays in deliveries, there were increased orders in period three, which already exceeded the final demand as a whole. This led to a chaotic ordering and / or demand behavior. The uncertainties in the demand forecast initially led to bottlenecks. The bottlenecks led to higher safety stocks, which led to overproduction. This led to a negatively evolving supply chain that affected the company. This phenomenon is also referred to as a bullwhip effect.In this assignment, a possible cause, which has strengthened the bullwhip effect, is investigated. The role of the author in order management as well as the presentation topic "Information and Funds Flow in Supply Chains" are taken into account. Yield-Stress model employed soil water depletion equations to instantly predict potential yield of 10 summer and winter crops under varying degree of water and salinity stresses in Egypt. Studying the depletion of soil water from the root zone was used in irrigation scheduling to save on the applied irrigation water to these crops. The model prediction showed good agreement between measured and predicted yield and water consumptive use values, which implied that the model is capable of investigating alternatives deficit water irrigation, saline water irrigation and/or deficit saline water irrigation.The use of the model could partially replacing expensive field experiments. The ability of Yield-Stress model to simulate the effect of water and salinity stresses provide an appropriate irrigation management tool to maximize yield and to save irrigation water.

This book is the result of a study on water use and management practices among industries in Kenya. The main policy instruments for water management by the government are the water tariffs and wastewater regulation. Water pricing framework for groundwater and surface water abstractions is critical due to widespread conjunctive use of public and privately supplied water by industries in Kenya. The main challenges in water policy regulatory enforcement emanate from low level of implementation. The poor outcomes can be attributed to (i) the multiple enforcement agencies with different mandates, each agency trying to define the laws on the basis of narrow mandates. No agency expressed interest in correlating their tasks with the others; (ii) the division of responsibilities among multiple agencies, with little coordination, made it procedurally difficult to harmonize operations, (iii) there was also notable absence of what can best be described as the “philosophy of enforcement” (or internal policies and principles) to guide water agency activities.

This research monograph assessed the physicochemical and bacteriological quality of the sampled drinking-water supply framework to detect the health risks that may arise thereof. It also employed a triangulated retrospective study to evaluate the health effect of the drinking-water supply consumption on the student population, and recommended effecient and sustainable management system to assure the short and long term health of the consumers. It revealed that 65% of the drinking-water supply sources were contaminated with faecal organisms. Thus are unfit for use in their native form. The understanding of water quality and its assessment, was poor among the sampled population. Indicating that majority of the consumers relied soly on physical appearance of drinking-water, in estimating domestic water quality. Students should be advised on simple steps that can be taken to rid water of contaminants. At the distribution level, it is recommended that the Framework for Safe Drinking-water (comprehensive risk assessment and risk management approach) proposed by the WHO be implemented in order to ensure the short term and long term health of the students of the University of Port Harcout.
